Another video from Moog’s AHA AVL series. This one is RBTS WIN, one of my favorite local bands mainly because I’ve watched them grow. I really like having a relationship with a band and its evolution because, to me, music is not a static thing but an almost intangible expression of a moment, a mood, a vibe, a place, a set of influences, an embracing of or letting go, a moving toward or fleeing from — it’s being human and learning to surf the currents so that, instead of being pulled into the undertow, you can ride the barrel, at least for an instant.
RBTS WIN’s music is many-faceted, both dark and ephemeral, tough and tender, scary and comforting. It’s a fantastic study of electronica, pop, rock, chillwave and trip hop that transcends all of those elements and surfaces in a new place. Lush, rhythmic, star-lit, cool and expansive it manages to both suck the air from the room and breathe into space.
